Our picks are based solely on mixtape quality. No disrespect to any artists left off, 2010 delivered an incredible run of releases, and cutting it down to a top 10 was no easy task. Let’s get into it.
1. J. Cole – Friday Night Lights: He’s #1 because he had the best mixtape period. He is the most promising rapper of the new school, he has great lyrics and produces a lot of his own music. He didn’t get the marketing other new rappers have gotten over the past years and he was able to generate enough buzz to shut down the internet the day this mixtape. Don’t believe us, hit the link below.

2. Rick Ross –The Albert Anastasia: G2 was in Miami when this dropped and this had the streets, barbershops, and clubs going nuts down in the M.I.A. I know plenty of folks have this as their #1 choice and might disagree with us but, fuck it.

3. Fabolous – There Is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service (No DJ): This probably had the best artwork this year but also had the sickest flow throughout the entire mixtape. Loso really challenge the competition with this one, specially the no DJ version sounded like an album.

4. Jadakiss, DJ Green Lantern & DJ Drama present The Champ Is Here 3. So Jadakiss wasn’t the real champ this year, but he wasn’t that far. The third installment didn’t disapoint and differentiate from the new school. Solid!

5. L.E.P Bogus Boys & DJ Drama Presents – Don’t Feed Tha Killaz III [Special Gangsta Grillz Edition]: This didn’t make top 10 because they’re from Chicago or because MTV picked this as top 10. It made the list because its a darn good mixtape.

6. Young Jeezy – 1000 Grams: Don’t act like ya’ll forgot about Jeezy. This made us feel he’s still moving those grams.

7. Big Sean – Finally Famous Vol. 3: BIG: Fans waited for this to drop since Big Sean delayed it for a few days, but it didn’t disappoint. Had a bunch of bangers and Big Sean is another guy that’s on top of the new school talent.

8. Kendrick Lamar – O.D.: The homie Miguelin told me this guy is like the Lupe Fiasco of the West Coast. I can see the resemblance but not quite at Lupe status yet. This was dope though.

9. Rockie Fresh –The Otherside: This came late in the year, but the kid is talented and did a solid job not getting lost within the features in the mixtape.

10. Mickey Factz – I’m Better Than You: In our opinion this was one of the slept on mixtapes of the year. Fat Joe and Bun B dropped some of the hottest verses on Paradise and Mickey is just sick on the mic.
