Wale Reconnects With His Roots on “James Freestyle”
At one point, Wale was one of the most consistent voices in hip-hop. While his commercial peak may be behind him, he’s still showing flashes of the skill that made him stand out in the first place. On “James Freestyle,” Wale delivers sharp bars over production from Don Cannon, tapping into the hunger and lyricism fans remember. The track feels like a throwback in the best way and serves as a reminder that Wale can still rap at a high level. Hopefully, this is a sign of more focused releases to come this year.
